Humour is an expected part of the Wedding MCs role,  however, it should not be intimidating!

 

The MC is not expected to be a stand-up comic.  The humour may consist of 4 to 5 jokes, stories or a combination of both, spread throughout the key moments of the reception or to fill gaps in the program.

 

Humorous stories about the bride and groom work very well.

 

Jokes should be personalised and altered to fit the occasion.  In all cases, the material used should be tasteful.

 

Master of Ceremonies

   

The Master of Ceremonies has been described as

methodical in duties carried out in accordance and characterized by, or organized in accordance with conventions governing ceremony, behaviour, or dress to a prescribed rule.

 

Another way is described as somebody who proposes toasts and introduces speakers at a banquet or reception.

 

The Wedding MC does not give an official speech, nor does he or she attend to tell a few jokes!

 

In general, the Wedding MC will be required to perform a variety of tasks from  introducing the Wedding Line, introducing the top table and special guests, introduce individuals presenting toasts, reading of telegrams, greetings from family and friends that could not attend and generally, look after the flow of events during the reception encompassed in a light hearted and humorous approach.

When the Wedding MC role is undertaken, we are not the show.  The Wedding MC is the vehicle and the grease to help make everything run smoothly.

 

When you think about it, the venue, the order of events, the people and the inventory have all been packaged by the bride and groom.  Therefore, it is our duty to present that package in the most gracious manner possible and keep everything running smoothly.

 

The art to being a good Wedding MC is to ensure that the bride and groom are not just kept the centre of attention, but that everyone is made to feel included.

 

Meetings are arranged with the bride and groom to ensure that the reception on day flows according to wishes.

 

The bride, groom, friends and family are the sources of material for Wedding MC presentation, therefore the preparation of material should begin as soon as the booking is confirmed!

 

As a rule of thumb, we usually plan to have twice as much material that is usually required.

Extra material can of course be used to fill gaps in the program.
